Patrick Graham, the team's chiropractor, told the paper he worked on Clemens daily in his two seasons with the Blue Jays and believes the veteran's assertion that he never took steroids - at least when he was in Toronto.

Brian McNamee, the pitcher's former trainer, talked with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Parrella and IRS Special Agent Jeff Novitzky about the events that led up to his phone call last week with the seven-time Cy Young Award winner, a person familiar with the session said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose details. The meeting took place at the office of Earl Ward, one of McNamee's lawyers. Parrella and Novitzky, part of the BALCO prosecution team that has indicted Barry Bonds for perjury and obstruction of justice, were in the area for Friday's sentencing of former track star Marion Jones.

The limits of the unit were not immediately clear. Will it place moles in clubhouses? Will it secretly tail players away from ballparks? Dan Mullin, a former New York City Police Officer who had been in baseball's senior director of security operations, was appointed vice president and head of the unit. George Hanna, a former FBI employee currently in baseball's security department, was appointed senior director of investigations. MLB will require all employees of the team and the commissioner's office to report any information on the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs to the head of the department of investigations. All team baseball operations employees will be required to sign an annual statement that they have no undisclosed knowledge of drug use, possession or distribution by players or other team employees. Following Mitchell's Lead Highlights of commissioner Bud Selig's implementations based on George Mitchell's suggestions of policing drug use in the sport: • Establishment of a department of investigations for the purpose of examining drug use • Tip line for team employees to make Selig's office aware of violations of drug, betting and other rules • Background checks and random drug tests for clubhouse employees • Logging all packages sent to clubhouses • Permanent credentials for drug testers

CNN is considering a follow-up. Informed, George Mitchell is starting interviews at all New York area fast food restaurants in hopes of ferreting out steroid use by baseball players at quik stop joints. Doesn't appear that any restaurants in Boston will be questioned. Jose Canseco is planning on writing a book on steroid injected beef. According to Jose, his experience as a horse's ass has brought him numerous contacts in the livestock industry.

Im not a Clemens fan but he has had a terrific career and to see it go down in smoke would be bad for the game (much like Bonds). Why is McNamee's words so accepted? He was a drug dealer and administrator, just makes no sense.

Jim Murray, who is employed by Clemens' agents, met with the pitcher's former trainer Brian McNamee in 2004, near Clemens' New York apartment, according to McNamee's attorney Earl Ward. Ward said that at the time, McNamee was concerned that some steroids may be lingering in Clemens' system that could result in a positive test in Major League Baseball's first round of steroid testing. "He did speak to Murray about his suspicions, his concerns that Major League Baseball had implemented testing and that Roger could have a problem," Ward told the New York Times after speaking with his client Friday night. McNamee said Murray took detailed notes about the meeting. "Brian wanted to let them know Roger had some problems," Ward told the New York Daily News. "They discussed steroid use."
