At this point it's his word vs his trainer, but he's already guilty in the opinion of the public.
HE HAS TO SUE! |

If McNamee sues Clemens for libel/slander I'll eat my shorts. There is no way a drug dealer is going to open himself up to discovery on whether he's
ever been untruthful. Also, what harm is there to McNamee's character? Even if Clemens is lying, McNamee is finished as a trainer. He's a drug dealer.
This is posturing. Nothing more. Nothing less. |

Who's watching the interview tonight on 60 minutes? Lets make this the official thread for it. Maybe rename it?
I'm liking the official threads on here!

Clemens is not our problem. He started in Toronto and in my mind will always be a Red Sox. So lets move on. He is a giant douce Sandwich (thanks Kaybli).
Also since this is post 50, Do I get away from Pavano? Edit: Yes, Matsui's porn club!! |

bailsbud wrote: Good post. There's really no way McNamee can prove Clemens is lying, unless he has a receipt or video. If he had that, he would have turned it over to Mitchell. Also, defamation laws require that you show a demonstrable financial loss--no more endorsements, fewer film roles being offer, being fired, etc. So bailsbud is right: how can you defame a confessed drug dealer? |

Basically Clemens has to refrain from calling him names directly. If he does that then McNamee can't sue him. Clemens can deny, deny, deny all he wants. He
just can't say that McNamee is a lying piece of shit. Lets face it, Clemens will never be able to clear his name anyway. In the court of public opinion he
is done!

So, anything interesting? Groundbreaking? Will Rocket take a lie detector?

I think Rocket did as well as can be expected under the circumstances. Not sure how many minds got changed. People tend to believe what they want. I was hoping
more would come from the Joe Torre references. Especially since Torre isn't known for going out on a limb for his players.

No. He skirted it by saying he didn't know if it would help clear him or not because people already made their minds up.

Clemens did say he would give the same answers/denials if called before Congress. I think the goal was to paint McNamee as an ungrateful sleeze. The funny
thing is, they kept showing clips of Clemens working out with McNamee. I don't know if the purpose was to show a connection between the two but I think the
effect was to back up Clemens' claims that he is a hard worker and that's why he was successful for so long.

Apparently Clemens and his trainer had an emotional conversation on Friday night
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3183738 Maybe Rocket is paying him off not to sue him? One final payday for McNamee? |

All Clemens was doing was keeping his answers short. By saying as little as possible he was limiting the chance he might say something that could get exploited
by Wallace. Well done I thought.

Awfully convenient quotes from McNamee's lawyer. First they said if Clemens calls McNamee a liar and/or drug dealer they would sue for defamation. Clemens
does both on 60 minutes. Now, McNamee's lawyer says they won't sue because Clemens didn't sound "believable" when he said those things.
Translation: McNamee was full of crap when he said he'd sue for defamation. Clemens and his lawyers called him on it. McNamee backs down from threat.
