The Yanks upper level affaliates got canceled, at the last minute, by Pittsburgh's minor leaguers, who wanted to play a community college (they lost). Eric Duncan hit a bomb, while Humberto Sanchez got bombed. 60 day DL (HGH Time!) Posts: 466 04/09/09 7:14 AM	Wednesday 4/8 Trenton kicked off their regular season with a loss to The Mets' Binghamton affiliate. All of the regulars had a hit, except Frankie Cervelli. The problem was that they were all singles, (except 2 doubles) and they were spread out. Eric Hacker pitched a solid game, giving up 1 run in 5 1/3 innings, but the bullpen gave the game away. Kevin Whelan pitched a solid 6th inning, but reverted back to form in the 7th, and gave the lead away. Scranton, Tampa and Charleston have their openers tonight. 60 day DL (HGH Time!) Posts: 466 04/10/09 6:11 AM	Thursday 4/9 It was opening day for Scranton, Tampa and Charleston. Scranton put up double digit runs, behind Juan Miranda's 5 RBI's. Trenton pulled out the tying run in the 9th and won in the 14th. Tampa lost, while Jesus Montero was held hitless. Charleston lost, and scored only 2 runs on 13 hits. They've been studying the Yankees. Andrew Brackman made his minor league debut, and looked like the pitcher in Hawaii, still trying to find his rhythm after TJ surgery. Brackman gave up 6 runs in 5 innings, while walking 3, with 2 wild pitches and committing and error. DJ Mitchell, in his debut for Charleston, threw a 1 hitter, with no earned runs, no walks and 6 strikeouts. All of the minor league teams, except Trenton won, who's bullpen couldn't hold the game. Ajax went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's, while Miranda started the game with a 3 run homer in the first. Miranda has 9 RBI's in the first 3 games of the season. Tampa clawed their way back to a run one lead in the 9th, but their closer, Jonathan Ortiz couldn't hold the lead. The game was tied on a double steal of home, followed by a two run walk off home run. Jesus Montero went 2 for 4 with a home run. Jeramy Bleich made his minor league debut. Charleston conquered Rome behind Manny Banuelos and a solid game from the bullpen. 60 day DL (HGH Time!) Posts: 466 04/13/09 6:04 AM	Sunday 4/12 Phil Hughes had a difficult time pitching with a howling wind and temperatures in the 30's. He needed 22 pitches to get his first out. With runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, Hughes got out of the first inning unscathed. He needed 22 pitches to get the next 7 outs. Phil gave up 3 runs in 6 innings, two of them via solo home runs (one was wind blown). Hughes had no feel for his curve, but hung in with his best cutter so far, and a good 4 seamer and change up. Austin Jackson continued his hot hitting in the new league, going 2 for 4, with 2 walks and no strikeouts. Juan Miranda went 3 for 6, and Kevin Cash went 3 for 3 with a homer. Mark Melancon continues to excell, getting 4 strikeouts, in 1 2/3 innings (with no hits or walks).
