Lineup: LF Damon SS Jeter 1B Teixeira 3B A-Rod DH Matsui C Posada RF Nady 2B Hudson CF Gardener Rotation CC Peavy Wang Joba Pettitte The payroll will end up a little higher, but they will have Peavy signed through 2013 at a reasonable rate, as well as Wang and Joba for really cheap, and hopefully a hometown discount for Pettitte. You BREAK THE BANK for CC and Tex, and you pay a little over market for Hudson because he knows the Yankees need him. Why can't this happen? Seriously. Rookie of the Year Posts: 376 10/21/08 10:21 PM	I wouldn't trade Cano now that his value is so low. I still have faith that he is a star in development. Also Peavy has being saying that he don't want to leave the NL, but that could be posturing... The funny thing is that Hughes, Cano and IPK would have being more than enough to land Johan, who is A LOT BETTER than Peavy. I would keep Abreu IF he take a 1 or 2 year contract, and wait for our prospects to develop. Let Mussina walk? wtf is that? (like the "gay" post: "could you please elaborate") :-P

Legitimate All-Star Posts: 734 10/22/08 9:50 AM	If we do that our payroll will go up a lot, even with all the money coming off. 10 for peavy next year, 20 Tex, 23 CC, 10 Hudson, 12 pettite... in the long term. I dont like it, (just my opinion)... I am 100% willing to deal with down years to really make our team better. CC is one thing... Hudson, Tex and Peavy are unnecessary. Peavy doesnt appeal to me, he isnt a big game pitcher, wittled twice under the pressure... always hurt once during the year, and loathes the AL... this says a lot about a guy to me. I think we stay the course, let the dead weight walk... and bring up more youngsters, and sign some choice free agents. And even with Cano's down year, his value is still high and so is hughes... Kennedy not so much, but still has value. If Hughes and Cano are being traded, I want god back or Roy holladay. Last Edited By: klza313 10/22/08 9:52 AM. Edited 1 time.

Legitimate All-Star Posts: 734 10/22/08 5:09 PM	Ross, dont get me wrong... there are days Im like Tex CC Burnett everyone... and others where I look at the Rays all there home grown talent and its so much more fun rooting for that. Youre a bit older then me and definitely started being an avid Yankee fan before me, but it was so much more fun rooting for those winning teams in the late 90s (aside from the winning) because they were homegrown players mixed with just a perfect collection of vets. Now, replicating that is near impossible in the new baseball business model, BUT... we already have the top dog moneymakers, we need the youth and choice mid level guys as well. Nady is a gritty start, but we NEED Ajax and Hughes to succeed along with Joba. We need melancon to succeed, and to a lesser extent Brackman, McAlister and Betances. If they do our team will be devastating again... but as most agree the answer isnt top priced prima donnas... as you know. It's a great TEAM, which is HUNGRY. And this first group of leaving free agents is the first step, the second is to withstand the urge to sign everyone. CC is fine... with Wang Joba pettite hughes and aceves, its a start... but as much as I like some of these guys including Damon, Matsui, etc. we have to let them walk for the betterment of our team. I THINK Cashman sees this, and Im banking on Hal as well. I also realize to charge the obscene amounts you need to get stars, but 1 CC is enough.

Replacement Level Posts: 188 10/23/08 1:19 PM	Phil Hughes better do something positive next year or the fans will have had enough of him. I won't mind him developing slowly but Yankee fans have become so impatient generally.
